Rubber Gaskets

A rubber gasket is a flexible static seal cut from rubber sheet or vulcanised in a mould. It conforms to rough surfaces even at low bolt loads and tolerates vibration and small movements. With the right elastomer selected for the medium and temperature, it is a long-lasting, economical solution for water, oil, fuel, steam and food lines.

Which rubber for which application?

• NBR (nitrile): oil, fuel, hydraulic fluids, mild chemicals. The most common type in general industry.
• EPDM: water, hot water, steam, acid and alkali solutions, outdoor use (ozone and UV resistant). Not for oil.
• Silicone (VMQ): food and pharmaceutical equipment, high and low temperatures, FDA-compliant translucent/red sheet.
• FKM (Viton type): chemicals, fuels, high temperature; the broadest resistance.
• Neoprene (CR): air, refrigerants, outdoor use, moderate oil resistance.
• Cloth-inserted (reinforced) sheet: fabric-reinforced rubber that resists extrusion in high-pressure flanges.
